TD raises payout 5% as core units buoy results

Toronto-Dominion Bank (TD-T 84.29 0.19 0.23%) earned $1.79 billion in the first quarter, up from $1.48 billion a year ago, and raised its dividend by 5 percent.

RBC profit rises 12%, bank raises dividend

Royal Bank of Canada (RY-T 63.48 0.23 0.36%) reported a stronger-than-expected 12-percent rise in quarterly profit on Thursday on the back of stronger loan growth and capital markets income, prompting the bank to raise its dividend by 5 percent.
