Sellers' market defies national trends

It’s a sellers’ market for resale condos in the city — the first time since the crazy days of 2007, says the Calgary Real Estate Board.
Resale condo apartments and townhomes are following the trend set by detached single-family resale homes, says the board.
Higher sales demand, coupled with lower listings, pushed the total resale market into sellers’ territory.

Decline in resale fuels construction

A drop in both resale and new spec homes in Calgary has fuelled a climb in housing construction this year, says a federal agency.
Through the first four months of 2013, the Calgary census metropolitan area saw a nine per cent increase in construction of single-family homes compared to the same period in 2012, says Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp.

New home prices rise 0.1% in March

New home prices in Canada rose by 0.1 percent in March, pushed up by the busy real estate market in Calgary for the second month in a row, according to Statistics Canada data released on Thursday.
Prices in Calgary, at the heart of the country's booming oil industry, contributed most to the climb in the new housing price index with a 0.3-percent advance, the agency said.
